Reignite Your Inner Drive
This concept might be familiar to some, but there’s immense value in revisiting it. Whether you’ve encountered this idea before or it’s entirely new to you, there’s power in re-firing those neurons and reassessing what’s working in your life. Take some time to simmer on it—perhaps even draw three overlapping circles or write out your thoughts. Clarity provides space for traction, and for many, this exercise has been transformative.
The Three Pillars of Fulfillment: Passion, Skill, and Need
Passion
First, identify what you’re passionate about. Whether it’s baking, quantum mechanics, music, architecture, or business, passion is the fuel that keeps you motivated even when challenges arise. Think about activities where you’re so immersed that you lose track of time—these are the pursuits that energize you and bring joy to your life.
Skill
Next, combine your passion with what you’re objectively good at or have the potential to become skilled in. For instance, while you may love pottery, you might struggle with the craft (like I do 🤣). It’s essential to either refine your skills in your area of passion or find an interest where your natural talents align better. This is where the magic happens—when passion and skill intersect.
Need
Finally, consider what the world truly needs and values. What are people willing to pay for? What problems can you solve better than anyone else? This pillar ensures that your pursuits are not only fulfilling for you but also beneficial and valued by others. Finding the intersection between your passion, skill, and market need can lead to extraordinary opportunities.
The Power of Combining Passion, Skill, and Need
When you find the sweet spot where these three elements overlap, incredible things can start to happen. Neuroscience shows that engaging in activities that align with our passions and skills activates the brain’s reward system, leading to increased motivation and satisfaction (Deci & Ryan, 2000).
Furthermore, fulfilling a societal need adds a layer of meaning and purpose, which enhances overall well-being and drives long-term success (Seligman, 2011).

Need:
Identify gaps or needs in your community or industry. What can you contribute that’s strongly needed and wanted? How can your passion and skill meet a real demand?
